Book Blogger Friday with Beverly & Tamara of Smile Someone Loves You

Welcome to Book Blogger Friday! Today we are welcoming Beverly and Tamara from SSLY – Smile Somebody Loves You – to the blog. The purpose of Book Blogger Friday is to introduce book bloggers to authors. This isn’t an invitation to swamp Beverly and Tamara with review requests, but it is an invitation for you all to drop by their blog and say hello!

RPC – Introduce yourself and your blog

SSLY – We are Beverly Ovalle and Tamara Hoffa. Our blog is SSLY – Smile Somebody Loves You. It is a blog geared toward romance. We have set up a reciprocal Facebook page with the same name and a twitter page with the same name. Even an email! It gives us a larger audience to promote our blog and vice versa.

RPC – Do you see yourself as a voracious reader?

SSLY – We are both huge readers. Bev: I currently review for one online review site. I admit I enjoyed reading more before I started doing reviews but if the book is good enough, why not rave about it, right? I love reading just about anything fiction. I am addicted to romance but sometimes I just need a good western (blood & guts, lol!) or sci fi. YA is a favorite genre of mine as sometimes I get tired of all the sex in novels. Sad I know as I write erotic romance J

Tamara: I read about a book a day. All genres of romance, though I am not a huge fan of historical or YA. I also love a good mystery. I also Beta read for several authors and Edit for Secret Cravings Publishing. I was reviewing for the same site as Bev, but just resigned, because there just aren’t enough hours in the day! lol

RPC – How long have you been blogging?

SSLY – Since February 1, 2013. Total newbies!

RPC – What made you decide to start book blogging?

SSLY – To promote our own books! We are both newly contracted authors. Tamara has one published with great reviews (Heart of a Soldier), and another due to be published in May. I have one that I am waiting to spring on an unsuspecting public as it is in my editor’s hands right now (Dragons’ Mate-an erotic shifter ménage). But doing just our own would be boring and since we both love to read (our daughter’s ask if we ever talk about anything else but books, lol!) thought we could help promote what we love with others.

RPC – What genre(s) does your blog focus on?

SSLY – We focus mainly on romance, but have Out of this World Saturdays and Thrill Me Thursdays. We have scheduled a couple of authors and books that are more Sci-Fi and detective that have requested to be on our blog and they fall quite naturally into those days.

RPC – Has your reading tastes changed since you started your blog?

SSLY – Nope. We still have quite eclectic tastes in books; we’ve just been introduced to more fantastic authors.

RPC – Do you post reviews on your blog?

SSLY – We have not as yet. We have been discussing it, but as the both of us have been doing reviews for so long for another site, we are not sure we want to open that can of worms. It might be an option on our From Me to You Fridays in the future. We do share reviews found on other sites on our Facebook page and our reviews from the site we review for. Authors or anyone that want to share a good review are welcome to share with us. We are not into bashing authors and our pet peeve is editing and poor spelling, you know then and than, its and it’s. I’m not sure where my aversion comes from, lol, other than having loved English in school, but Tamara is a beta reader and a professional editor so it drives her batty! I know I have a hard time reviewing a book with errors like that, but it does affect your review. I had to review one that did some “cutesy” thing with quotation marks. If I hadn’t read that particular author before and loved her stories I would never have read another one after that. If we do, we probably won’t take requests, just books we’ve read and enjoyed.

RPC – How many review requests do you get each month on average?

SSLY – None as we have not given that as an option

RPC -Do you have a Review Policy or something similar?

SSLY – No but reviews can be linked if link is supplied through Facebook or to attach to the book spotlight

RPC – Do you review Indie or Small Pub books?

SSLY – No we will spotlight them though

RPC – Do you host guest posts or interviews?

SSLY – Yes, they are super fun

RPC -What information do you require when an author approaches you?

SSLY – For a book spotlight, the cover and blurb, buy links (or really what’s the point?) An author bio to go with it. For an interview, a picture. We’ve had body parts, hand drawings and real photos for this and we send the interview questions for a response. If we mix up the male and female interviews it has been quite amusing. And no we didn’t do it on purpose. Most of our questions were originally geared towards a female author. We’ve adjusted the interviews due to this, though the ones that the men answered were hilarious and they were totally good with it, great sense of humor each one! We always welcome a book & blurb along with the interview. And Buy Links (see a theme here?) Pretty much anything to catch a reader’s eye to promote their book. We also have some character interviews coming up, but for that we really need to have read the book to gear the interview towards the character. If we get a request for that, if one of us hasn’t read it, we would need a copy to read. But as much as we read, that might not be an issue. We also welcome author blogs and that has been pretty much anything goes. We are participating in a couple of upcoming hops and would like to continue those in the future. They are a great promotion for our blog and authors.

RPC -How can we stalk you?

SSLY – LOL! In a big car so we can see you! Or if you prefer the sneakier approach here are our links. You can win the stalker award if you find our personal accounts other than these! Here are our public accounts:
